Opinion: What I Know About Dragons

Disclaimer: The contents of this article are solely my views and opinions, hence the first word in the title being "opinion". I will state what I "know" or experienced and mention when something is less well known rather than starting each sentence with "I believe...". I hope this doesn't put anyone's tail in a knot (pun intended) and hope you enjoy reading what I have to offer. Thank you, and have a nice day. No Image Available
First of all, there are many dragon-like creatures out there in the world. A classic view may be of a fire-breathing, flying reptile; usually either of the western or wyvern variety. In truth the word 'dragon' and the imagery associated with it are human concepts and various creatures, though they be mammal, may not breath fire, and may not fly, may still be called dragons by people and would accept this, having no better term for themselves that people might understand.
A major reason that all of this can be written and all this information discovered is that dragon spirits/minds/souls can inhabit human bodies and even become human on the exterior if they happen to be the sole owner of the body. There are many people (think thousands) out there who have started up communities because they found a thing in common between them and that is their draconity, or state of being a dragon in some way. Dragon spirits have also been known to share bodies with humans and provide guidance or assistance. Some people use dragons as an aid in doing energy work because the dragon may be aware of and capable of things that the human is not. As a side note; eastern dragons (i.e. Chinese Lung) are affected by the energies of their environment. Happy and joyful dragons are a reflection of the place where they reside being happy and joyful, while destructive and corrupt dragons may be a representation of a nasty place. There are plenty of gray areas and in-betweens, but this is a rough example to illustrate the point.
Dragons are neither purely good nor purely evil, and those terms themselves are viewed as obsolete by the author. Dragons have been known to have both beneficial and harmful intentions towards humans; either a particular group or the entire race. Doing an in depth search for stories containing dragons will yield evidence of both. The particular cause of such might be rooted in the dragon's personal experience or while growing up, or they may be completely apathetic to people as long as they can live in peace.
Dragons may be carnivorous, omnivorous, and the possibility of herbivorous dragons exists. As sizing goes; some may be small enough they eat insects while in the adult stage while other may be large enough to prey on cows. Going above this size puts forward various questions about whether the dragon can fly, whether it can support its weight, and other physiological oddities about having a large land-based creature. Fire-breathing, in the dramatic sense, has not yet been understood but various theories have been heard. It is confirmed that dragons may have glands in their mouth that squirt combustible or corrosive fluids, or special bladders that store gases in their bodies for later release, but these are mainly used as a last-resort or a scare-tactic as they are not instantly reproduced.
The dragon mind is distinctly different from the human mind in both mental structure and how thoughts are processed. This is partly due to the dragon not needing a verbal language consisting of words to communicate, and thoughts will reflect such, but there are reports of dragons who think in a similar style to humans. The conscious awareness, or sentience, of a dragon can vary from the fully animalistic, to bordering on self-awareness and emotional development, to a dragon capable of comprehending greater things and a capacity for a wide range of emotions.
Physical dragons have interacted with humans in the past, sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse. Certain times it may have even been to the benefit of both the humans and the dragon(s), but misunderstandings and a communication barrier may lead to disagreements and ultimately fights. Dragons that only exist in a spiritual form also form the range of possibilities. They may be what spawns the more grand mythologies of dragons that control the elements or are completely made of crystal, but the understanding is that such cannot happen physically, under normal circumstances. So it is assumed that those dragons are either spiritual entities or physical dragons that have influence over the energies to a certain degree, but a physical dragon swimming in a pool of molten lava is out of the question.
There are still unknowns regarding dragons as they are viewed as mysterious creatures by people and ideas exist to reflect that. I wish to present two theories for your reading and consideration before this article comes to a close. The first is the idea that dragons are from an entirely different universe or reality than that which we inhabit now because they are the most well-known competitor to humanity due to their intelligence and because on Earth and the other planets (you'll have to take my word for it) there are no predators for larger-sized dragons. Cases existing where a dragon's coloration or skin pattern will contrast with their environment, but that may be explained as them having been uplifted from their long term home. The second theory is that dragons possess a small metallic crystal within their head that can emit low-level microwaves that would excite another dragon's crystal and allow for telepathic communication between the two. No solid evidence exists for it, to the author
's knowledge, but it exists as a possibility that may answer a few questions.

And so, I hope you enjoyed reading about my take on dragons and may have learned something you might agree with. As with other articles I welcome disagreements or counter-ideas if they are presented respectfully. Please do proceed with your day and the act of having it be nice.
